What is Wokabaot Jalens?

Wokabaot Jalens is Bislama language and means "walking challenge".

Wokabaot Jalens is a health intervention which aims to increase habitual physical activity levels and improve healthy eating patterns of female ni-Vanuatu civil servants in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

Wokabaot Jalens is part of the "Walk for Life" government based healthy workplace program which was implemented in the Vanuatu government in 2007. Walk for life is an exemplary healthy workplace progam of the 21st century: employees are enouraged and supported to engage in physical activites every Wednesday afternoon. Even the prime minister participates in regular walks!

I belief that a combination of individual lifestyle changes, a culturally supportive environment (make healthy choices easy choices!), public policies and culturally appropriate social marketing strategies can help these people adapt and maintain healthier lifestyles and add years to their life and life to their years...

Each Ministry in Vanuatu has one poster of these maps. The teams are visually walking around the beautiful islands of Vanuatu...
